Thor's Story I would like to introduce you to Thor. Thor was found on 11/3/11 by a maintenance worker at an apartment complex in Flint, MI. It is believed that Thor was used as a bait dog and later dumped by his owners. As you can see, Thor is recovering from his wounds and malnutrition; however, he has a long road ahead of him. His recovery includes laser therapy for the deep puncture wounds as well as heartworm treatment. This is the least horrific photograph of Thor. I opted for this one, as the other photographs are extremely graphic. I know they are difficult to look at, but I urge you to visit and like his Facebook page (link below) to see for yourself what this beautiful animal has gone th Click here to read Thor's full story.

Patrick is a 2-4 year old pitbull. On March 16, 2011, Patrick was found in a plastic garbage bag at the end of a 22 story apartment building garbage chute in New Jersey. As you can see, Patrick was near death the day he was found. The hospital personnel could not believe he was still alive and did not think he would survive the next 24 hours. He was given intravenous fluids and covered with warm blankets. Patrick was then transferred to Garden State Veterinary Specialists. Patrick continues to thrive with the care and love that GSVS has provided. Patrick’s owner was found and will stand trial. If found guilty, she faces jail time and a monetary fine. Patrick has been ordered by the court system to remain under the care of GSVS until the legal proceedings are complete. It has been rumored that Patrick has already found his forever home with one of his caretakers from GSVS.

Pearson's Story: On March 23, 2011 A few weeks later
Pearson was found by a maintenance worker who contacted St. Louis Stray and Rescue. The rescue believed he was dead, but to their surprise was still alive. Pearson was taken in for emergency care where they determined him to be severely emaciated and dehydrated. He was so far gone that his body did not register a temperature. Within a few short weeks, Pearson had gained weight and was able to be adopted. If you would like to follow Pearson’s story, you can visit www.facebook.com/PearsonsHope. This is Pearson with his new friend, Casey.

It was later found that he had two (2) types of mange…which is very rare. He has his forever home with Tiffany, the woman who found him. Tad was extremely lucky, because Tiffany is a vet tech. If you would like to follow Tad’s story, you can visit facebook.com/TheAbandonedDog.
Emaciated and filthy—the volunteers did not even know what color his coat was. He is 32-42 LBS UNDERWEIGHT. He was DUMPED at the shelter by his owners. There is currently a cruelty investigation in process. Owners claim "it's too expensive to have a dog".
He pushed hard to crawl into one of the volunteers laps, and even though he didn’t appear comfortable maintaining a crouched position, he continued to soak up the first bit of love he had felt in a very long time. Their transport volunteer said it made her think of a puppy seeking out the comfort of its mother. After some time their volunteer re-arranged the bedding on the bottom of the van so they could both be more comfortable. Lancelot is currently in foster care and doing really well. One of the vets told United Hope for Animals that he was aggressive, they were wrong.
UPDATE: It is with great sadness to inform you that Lancelot passed away on May 22, 2011. To help other animals, Lancelot’s foster parents are keeping his Facebook page open. May and June Mutts Sadly, both of the dogs we selected to be our Mutts of the Month for May and June passed away. We were able to send a Petco gift card to Lancelot’s foster parents; however, Beaumont passed away before we were able to send our donation. The money raised to help Beaumont will go to purchasing two 50 lb. bags of dog food and treats which will be donated to Pets of the Homeless. If you would like to make a donation to Pets of the Homeless, please visit www.petsofthehomeless.org.
